If you have recently gotten a puppy and taken them for their first car ride, you may be a bit worried when they get car sick. This may leave you wondering if a puppy will outgrow car sickness. Here are a few of the answers to questions you may have.
Car sickness in puppies is more common than in adult dogs. But not every dog will outgrow car sickness. While car sickness is often caused by motion in humans, it is typically a reaction to stress in dogs.
The best way to minimize car sickness in puppies or dogs is to get them used to the car and excited for the car ride. If you only take them on a car ride when they are going to the vet or being groomed, they may not like the car and may be stressed out by it. But if you take your pet for rides to the park or to get dog treats, they may not equate the car to stress and may not get sick.
If your dog gets car sick, you may want to schedule an appointment or bring it up to your next appointment. In some cases, a vet may be able to prescribe anti-anxiety or motion pills to help decrease the likelihood of your pet getting sick when riding in your car.
