Does Your Pet Need Surgery?

Orange County veterinarian offer pet surgery.jpgAt some point in your pet’s life he may need surgery, a prospect that many pet owners understandably find daunting. But you can rest assured that your pet will enjoy a high level of surgical care from our Orange County veterinarian, Dr. Kerolos. Here at Trinity Pet Hospital we perform many different kinds of animal surgery, from spay and neuter procedures to mass removal for tumors, bone surgery and eye surgery.

Types of Animal Surgery

Spay and neuter surgery makes good veterinary sense for all dogs and cats. Animals that are not surgically sterilized exhibit all kinds of negative behaviors, from aggression and spraying to compulsive roaming that could put them at risk of injury. Spaying and neutering also removes the risk of many potentially lethal cancers. Neuter surgery is a relatively simple procedure to remove the testicles; spay surgery is slightly more complex because it is an internal procedure. In either case, your pet should be able to come home either the same day or the day after. We can advise you on how to watch for signs of possible infection and when to schedule a follow-up exam.

Mass removal is another common surgery performed when our pet hospital detects a skin tumor or other mass on your pet’s body. Older dogs may also need eye surgery to remove cataracts, just as older humans so often do. Today’s laser surgery techniques allow us to perform these procedures with pinpoint accuracy, minimal blood loss (the laser cauterizes the incision as it cuts), and faster recovery times.

Our Orange County veterinarian can even repair complex fractures and treat bone diseases through fixation, fusion and other types of bone surgery. Surgery requires anesthetic, of course, but we administer precise dosages and maintain a close watch on your pet's vital sign to ensure his safety throughout the procedure. Whatever your pet’s surgical needs, we will give him the reassurance, professional care and thorough follow-up he needs to get well!
